Beautiful Wedding Decor Ideas for Your Hawaii Destination Wedding

Your wedding day is a celebration of love and unity, a day that reflects the incredible bond you share with your partner. We may be biased, but we can’t think of a better place to tie the knot than Hawaii, whether you’re planning a large ceremony or an intimate elopement.

Hawaii Wedding Bouquet

The natural beauty of the Big Island makes for the perfect backdrop, and the many talented florists and stunning venues provide almost everything else you need to make your day memorable. But that doesn’t mean you can’t add some thoughtful little touches of your own to incorporate your personality and style. It’s one of the most exciting parts!

We have some ideas to help you start thinking about some of the possibilities that can take your wedding day vibes to the next level:

Hawaiian Leis

Start your journey together with the traditional Hawaiian symbol of love and respect. Exchange leis as a symbol of your commitment to each other, give them to your guests as a wearable favor, or use them to decorate your wedding venue!

Tip: Choose leis made from fragrant flowers like plumeria, orchids or pikake to add a beautiful scent to your ceremony and ti leaf for male lei.

Table & Chair Decorations

Adorn your reception tables and chairs with tropical flowers, foliage, and elegant linens for a bright and beautiful look. Many venues have options for you to rent, so be sure to ask what is available on-site to save yourself time and money.

Tip: Try to incorporate beachy elements like shells or sea glass into your tablescape for a more unique and local touch or add Hawaiian fruits: Pineapples, Papayas, Avocados, etc.

Wedding Arches

Frame your ceremony with a gorgeous wedding arch adorned with tropical blooms and greenery. This creates a stunning backdrop for your vows and it looks great in photos! We loved the arch Kim and Logan had at their Mauna Kea Beach Hotel wedding.

Tip: Opt for a wooden or bamboo arch for a natural look that complements the lush surroundings of Hawaii.

Flower Rings / Leis on the Tree

Are you planning an oceanside ceremony? Add an extra touch of romance with loose flower rings on the beach. Or, create a flower ring on your cake table to add a pop of color and elegance to your dessert display.

Tip: If possible, choose flowers in your wedding colors or coordinate them with your bouquet to help tie the flower rings into your overall theme.

A Dreamy Dance Floor

Create a designated space for dancing under the stars with twinkling lights and floral accents. Make sure your dance floor is large enough for everyone to join in on the fun without worrying about tripping or falling.

Tip: If you have photos of you and your partner dancing together throughout your relationship, display them around the dance floor for your guests to admire!

Chandeliers and Paper Lanterns

Chandeliers aren’t just for indoor spaces! You can add a touch of glamour by hanging an elegant chandelier or paper lanterns over your reception space. We just love how The Four Seasons Hualalai illuminated Frank and Michelle’s outdoor space.

Tip: If possible, use flickering bulbs to create a warm, romantic glow that resembles candlelight.

Baskets for Shoes and Flip-Flops

Provide your guests with baskets filled with flip-flops for dancing or comfortable shoes for strolling along the beach. You want people to feel comfortable for the entire duration of your wedding, and this is such a thoughtful way to do that.

Tip: You can personalize the flip-flops with your wedding date or initials and encourage guests to take them as favors at the end of the night.

Christmas Ornaments

A lot of couples choose to get married in Hawaii in December. If this is something you’re considering, you might want to think about incorporating some island-themed ornaments into your wedding decor. It’s different, but we have seen this done so beautifully.

Tip: Again, these can double as favors so your guests to take home a little piece of Hawaii. They’ll remember you each time they hang them on their tree!

Personalized Decor

From handmade signage to unique favors, the possibilities for personalized decorations are endless. If there’s something you and your partner are into, try to think about how you could incorporate it into the decor so your wedding feels like you!

Tip: Work with someone based in Hawaii on your personalized decor. They can help you source local elements to add a more authentic touch.
